Step 1: Turn Your Chile into Powder
Place your Chile Peeler Nation Freeze Dried Hatch Green Chile into a blender, food processor, or spice grinder and blend until it becomes a fine powder.
For a milder flavor, mix the chile powder with flour. For a bolder New Mexico flavor, you can increase the amount of chile powder to your liking.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups Chile Peeler Nation Hatch Green Chile powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 cup Crisco shortening
- 1 to 2 cups warm water
Directions
In a large bowl, combine flour, green chile powder, salt, and baking powder.
Add shortening and mix until crumbly and evenly combined.
Slowly add warm water a little at a time, mixing with your hands until a soft, pliable dough forms.
Knead dough until smooth, then cover with a clean towel and let rest for about 15 minutes.
Separate dough into small balls about the size of an egg. Roll each ball into a circle about 5 to 7 inches wide.
Cook on a hot griddle or skillet, turning as needed until lightly blistered and golden brown on both sides.
